2-CDs: A Tribute to Bach: Bach Flute Sonatas
2-CDs: Bach Flute Sonatas (BWV 1030, 1032, 1034, 1035), Solo (Partita BWV 1013), beautiful arias with flute obbligato from Bach cantatas 8, 82a, 114, 115, 180, Adagio from Easter Oratorio Sinfonia (BWV 249) plus Rachel Brown's transcriptions of Bach harpsichord concerto BWV 1056 and Vivaldi/Bach Adagio RV 299/BWV 973.
A Tribute to Bach: Bach Flute Sonatas & Arias
Monumental sonatas alongside exquisitely beautiful and virtuosic cantata arias with flute obbligato, full of joyful exuberance or plumbing the depths of despair.
This 2-disc set opens with the heart-rending Adagio from the Sinfonia to the Easter Oratorio, BWV 249, usually heard on the oboe, but performed here in a later version with flute. The recital closes with an equally poignant Adagio, originally from a violin concerto by Vivaldi but reworked by Bach for keyboard (and rearranged by Brown for flute and harpsichord), with Bach’s distinctive enrichment of the harmony and filigree ornamentation. The Sarabande in the Solo (Partita), BWV 1013, is performed with embellishments inspired by Bach.
Performed on period instruments at A 392.
